ABOUT

In our fast-evolving and technological era, there is a growing need for STEM skills, and education and training play crucial roles in equipping individuals with these skills. However, many countries are experiencing declining numbers in STEM education and training despite the increasing demand. Moreover, numerous stereotypes concerning STEM, particularly pertaining to gender inequalities, continue to persist.

We want to promote STEM involvement among primary school pupils by designing a series of curated boxes that offer school curriculum-based activities as well as storytelling exercises related to STEM. The storytelling tools will allow the pupils to share their findings with the rest of the class and cultivate their oral expression skills.

Adding the ‘A’ for ‘Arts’, we thus adopt a STE’A’M approach: with the boxes, pupils will be able to develop not only their competencies in STEM subjects but also key skills such as collaboration, communication, creativity, and presentation skills.

By using an integrated and multi-disciplinary approach and inquiry-based learning, My Box Of STEAM aims to foster critical thinking and promote inclusion and diversity.

We believe that every pupil should receive the same opportunity and encouragement, and we reject the notion that STEM subjects are exclusively designed for a specific group of individuals. Therefore, significant efforts are dedicated to incorporating inclusive practices during the production of project resources and tools. Our aim is twofold: to actively address and reduce gender inequalities in STEM and to cater to the specific requirements of pupils with learning disorders.

Within this project, we will create a collection of 35 STEM boxes covering a range of STEM subjects and designed for pupils aged 6 to 12, aligning with the school curriculum. Each box will be accompanied by tutorials that explain how to create them and Pedagogical Sequences that can be utilized by teachers throughout the school year, following a STEAM approach to facilitate understanding and implementation of the activities.

A Pedagogical Guide will also be developed to assist teachers and schools in utilizing engaging and inclusive STEAM education tools and approaches. Furthermore, a Box Creation Guide will be available, empowering teachers to create their own customized boxes that cater to their specific needs. Lastly, an Implementation Guide will be created, which will include national reports from the testing phase of the project and testimonials from participants.

The project enhances access to innovative learning methods for learners with learning and behavior disorders, increases interest in STEM subjects and careers among underrepresented groups, and empowers pupils with greater involvement in their learning process.
